Acne scars are among the hardest to treat. Treating scars in general aims at improving the appearance of the scars and rarely can result in complete disappearance of the scar. Fortunately, with the advent of lasers we now have a powerful tool to treat scars with minimal downtime (see Fractional Lasers section). Other modalities of acne scar treatment include subcision or surgical removal also known as punch excisions and chemical peels.
Subcision is a procedure done in the clinic and can improve the appearance of depressed acne scars. Under local anesthesia the scar is lifted up using a special needle (Nokor). The procedure is safe, quick and has no side effects except for temporary bruising and swelling, and is highly effective in the right hands.
